Why is my site not on Google?

Common reasons a page is missing from Google, and what you can check without guessing.

"Not on Google" usually means one of two things. Google has not indexed the page. Or the page is indexed, but it does not show up when you search your own name and expect to be first.

A scan of the public page can help with the first problem. It cannot see your Search Console account, and it cannot see why Google ranked someone else higher.

Google may not be allowed to read it

Open yoursite.com/robots.txt. If Googlebot is blocked, or every bot is blocked with Disallow: /, Google is being told to stay away.

Also view the page source and look for noindex. A noindex tag is a direct request to keep the page out of the index.

The page may be hard to understand

A missing title, a missing H1, or a page with almost no text gives Google very little to file. A canonical tag that points at a different site tells Google the other site is the main copy.

A sitemap does not guarantee indexing. It does give Google a list of URLs. If you have no sitemap and few links from other sites, discovery is slower.

The page may be new, or it may be ranked lower

New pages can take time. Google also skips thin pages, copies, and pages it cannot fetch. If the page is indexed but you are not on page one, that is a ranking question. Titles, useful text, and links from other sites matter. There is no honest trick that jumps a new site to the top.

What to do this week

  1. Search Google for the full page URL, not just your brand.
  2. In Google Search Console, use URL inspection if you have the site verified. This scan cannot do that step for you.
  3. Fix robots.txt, noindex, the title, and the canonical tag if they are wrong.
  4. Publish a sitemap and link to it from robots.txt.
  5. Make sure the words you want to be found for appear on the page as real text.

ReachSeen checks the public signals in that list for one page. It will not tell you your rank, and it will not promise that Google will list you.
